For their song Change the Standard Antillectual and director Ivana Smudja created a music video in combination with 5 mini documentaries. The documentaries show people and organizations changing the standard in their field of work towards more sustainable, fair trade and organic industries and society. The series is proof that entrepreneurs like these, many with a background rooted in punk rock and DIY ethics, can make a change.

Lyrics:

For the first time in history we won’t be better off than our parents
We are the first generation that will not rise above the last
But let’s not mix things up, define the fruit from your labor
You’re taking quantity over quality, you’re talking apples and oranges

Let’s sort out means and ends
Cooking and facebook friends
Let’s set this straight
Well-being is the greatest good and wealth is just a gate

It’s time, change the standard
How can we measure life if we don’t understand it

Change those birthday conversations, stop boasting your shallow success
The red herring known as GDP is what you’re gonna tell your kids?

It’s time, change the standard
How can we measure life if we don’t understand it
It’s time to change the standard
How can we measure life if we don’t understand and learn to set our priorities straight

Liner notes:

If “more” equals “better” and if billions are the new millions, then we need a new “better”.
What’s most important in life? What does it all come down to? I’d say a nice mix of physical and mental health, the right people around you and some material stuff to maintain that situation. Isn’t it weird then, that our well-being is being measured by economic standards, the GDP being the most well known? We’re only looking at the means, not considering the ends. It’s hard to quantify the level of “right people around you”, but we should be able to do better than the GDP. Maybe we can start to include indicators that bear in mind the condition of the societies we live in, the human, animal and environmental rights and the ever crucial veggie-to-meat-hamburgers ratio?
