Artist Biography: World War IX: They’ve got your eyes and ears covered!
Born over a decade ago, World War IX is a punk rock/junk rock comic book come to life! Though the line-up has changed somewhat over the years, their core sound remains the same: Rifftastic, bombblastic, anthemic tales of a debauched lifestyle riddled with questionable decisions and absurd situations. However, brain bogglingly catchy tunes aren’t this band’s only means of expression.
Since their inception, founding member and guitarist Justin Melkmann has been chronicling the group’s euphoric highs, and nauseating lows in his critically acclaimed comic book series Earaches and Eyesores. Melkmann, whose style is equal parts R. Crumb and Peter Bagge, has also drawn and written the wildly successful bio comic, Slap in the Face: My Obsession with GG Allin.
WWIX hails from New York City, but these blokes from Brooklyn have toured the United States extensively. Luckily, the current cast of clowns that make up the band nowadays genuinely enjoy spending time with each other, and it shows in their savage yet always silly live performances.
To date, they’ve polluted the world with five comic books, six albums, and countless singles. They have no intention of stopping, and why would they? So long as there’s a busted beer bottle or a back stage blunder to write a song, or draw a comic about, World War IX will be here.
