“Ali Bomaye” cantaba el pueblo africano en el histórico y simbólico combate Rumble in the Jungle,
celebrado en octubre de 1974 en Kinsasa (Zaire). Muhammad Ali ganó el encuentro contra
George Foreman, y recogió de nuevo un título que el Gobierno americano le había quitado para
acabar con su carrera tras haberse negado a luchar en Vietnam. El combate es un símbolo que
recuerda momentos deportivos mezclados con reivindicaciones en uno de los periodos más
oscuros de la historia americana contemporánea, la que va entre la Guerra del Vietnam y la
segregación racial. “Boyame” es la historia de un hombre que al octavo round, contra todo
pronóstico, se iluminó para transformarse en un mito”.
„‘Ali, boma ye!“ sang the African people in Kinshasa during the historical Rumble In The Jungle, one of the biggest matches ever in sports and regarding the positive meassage that went along with it.
Muhammad Ali won the Kinshasa match against Foreman, regaining the title he was deprived of by the US government, trying to destroy his career after he had refused to sign up for Vietnam.
The story spans over great sports moments and social claims during one of American history’s most obscure times, during the war in Vietnam and racial segregation: it’s the story of a man who, contrary to any forecasts in the eighth round of the match, lights up and becomes an icon.“
