“Racist Rash” is the first single from Antillectual’s new album “ENGAGE!”. The song deals with the racism that is still omnipresent in our culture, sports, traditions and policies. These days a Dutch celebrity (Sylvana Simons) gets heavily attacked because of her skin color and her anti-racist criticism. These days a “normal” European country like Austria might elect an extreme right President. Racism is not an opinion or an ideology, it’s a crime to be convicted or a disease to be cured at best.

„Racist Rash“ was shot at the famous “Onderbroek”, directed and edited by Harko Wubs, a political film and documentary director and producer, who is active in the field of migration, refugee and border policies.

LYRICS:

Racist Rash

It’s in our heads
It’s in our commonality’s threads

Afraid to lose our grip we cling to false security
Fictitious beacons of a national identity
Why not denaturalize, rid static uniformity?
Why carry around this fake ID?

Respect existence or expect resistance

It’s in our heads, there is a virus
It’s in our commonality’s threads, widespread among us

Strategic benefits, white privilege, ignorance is bliss
Don’t let the suspect judge his own case

But these colonial carnivals, our imperial offense
Give us colonial hangovers, the immigrant’s revenge

Unfortunately racism is still omnipresent in our culture, sports, traditions, policies and our history and its present day interpretation. From Black Lives Matter activism to recent attacks at refugees to the Pegida movement, and so on. There’s too many examples of racism and the anti-racist action people engage in as a result.
Past perceptions of the world, ancient traditions and a globalized world fuel unjust, latent, racist tendencies in individual people and in society as a whole. This interaction of personal and societal institutionalized prejudices creates an explosive mixture in multicultural communities.
A big obstacle in overcoming racism is the inability of people to accept that a statement or action without a racist intention can in fact have a racist implication. The bullheaded idea that one can perfectly judge a situation one is part of is another big obstacle. Don’t let (racist) patients diagnose their own case. Additionally; forcefully holding on to a non-existing, or at least diminishing, national identity only makes things worse.
Racism is not an opinion or an ideology, it’s a crime to be convicted or a disease to be cured at best.

“There is no such thing as one Dutch identity” -Queen Máxima of the Netherlands
